This release of the HAL System includes 18 types of RADs, each of which is described below. Over time, the number of available RAD models will grow, increasing the versatility and flexibility of your Halogen system. Many RADs mount inside a US two-gang, three-gang, or four-gang switchbox. See the Halogen Installation Manual for a detailed listing of acceptable models of switchboxes. Note that the Decora plates for the RADs are included.

A RAD16 provides an alternative to standard switchboxes for areas in which a switchbox is impractical. Its form factor is a rugged metal box with flexible mounting options. It offers two inputs, each of which can be one of the following (selectable from within Halogen): one professional quality microphone (Euro style connector) with 24 V phantom power OR one balanced line-level (Euro style connector). In addition, it offers two balanced line-level outputs (Euro).
The RAD16z covers applications possible with the original RAD16 with significant improvements qualifying it for even more applications, while still having the same plenum rating as RAD16. Most notably, it covers applications where galvanic isolation, logic I/O and universal Mic/Line/Line-Plus inputs are needed.
The RAD16z form factor is a rugged metal box with flexible mounting options. All I/O is via Euro style connectors. Available inputs are two universal Mic/Line/Line-Plus inputs, each of which can be one of the following (selectable from within Halogen): one dynamic mic, one condenser mic with 48 V phantom power, two consumer unbalanced L & R monoed, or one balanced line-level. The RAD16z also offers two balanced line-level outputs.
The addition of Logic I/O allows a RAD16z to support operations like push-to-talk microphones, preset recall, lighting and projector screen control. The RAD Port of the device features 500-volt galvanic isolation, a useful characteristic when bridging between locations with divergent technical grounds, eliminating any need for individual isolation transforms on audio inputs and outputs.
A RAD17 provides a single audio input from a built-in omnidirectional boundary layer microphone / PZM pressure zone electret microphone that handles extreme temperatures and humidity for indoor or outdoor applications. It may be used for ambient noise sensing, surveillance, security, train stations, etc.
The RAD26 provides support for all of the audio I/O and control required to support a typical small room in a larger distributed audio system. The RAD26 is an input, output, amplifier and control solution for small rooms within a larger sound system. Hotels with small meeting rooms and spa rooms require local inputs and control and must also receive paging from elsewhere in the building. Many offices and campuses provide meeting and conference rooms for small groups which must support in-room A/V presentations but also receive emergency pages and announcements.
A RAD27 provides stereo USB Audio in and out of a single computer. Perfectly suited for presentation, meeting and class rooms, simultaneous playback and recording is supported. Input/Play and Output/Record signal present and overload indicators provide handy βis the computer sending USB audio?β troubleshooting assistance at the wall plate. A dedicated blue Connected indicator illuminates when the computer operating system recognizes the RAD27 as a sound card. When used with any HAL, the Connected indicator is readable and programmable in the Halogen software. This permits actions in your HAL system once the USB Audio cable is plugged in, such as lowering a screen and turning on the projector via Ethernet control commands or contact closures.
An AM1 is an automixer that provides four professional quality microphone inputs (XLR) with 48 V phantom power, one mono consumer line-level input (RCA x 2), one mono consumer line-level input (3.5 mm TRS), one professional quality selectable microphone/line-level output (XLR), and one mono consumer line-level output (RCA x 2) in a 1U rack mount. Note that the output from the AM1 is sent digitally via the RAD Port to HAL, where it can then serve as a single digital audio input channel.

An AM2 is a cascadable automixer that provides eight professional quality microphone inputs (XLR) with 48 V phantom power and one professional quality selectable microphone/line-level output (XLR) in a 1U rack mount. Note that the output from the AM2 is sent digitally via the RAD Port to HAL, where it can then serve as a single digital audio input channel.

Think of the RADX as an extension cord. The port to which the RADX is connected needs to be configured for a specific kind of RAD β and you can only plug in that type of RAD. People might choose the RADX approach over buying all the specific RADs because of the cost. A RADX is MUCH cheaper than an actual RAD. Therefore, just buying one set of RADs and moving them around on an A/V cart is cheaper. The RADX has a microphone type jack in it β to help the audio guy distinguish between the RADX and a standard CAT 5 data connection in the wall.
Each switch box RAD is available in white, ivory, or black. RAD model numbers differ based on their color: Note that RAD16z, RAD17, AM1, and AM2 are available in black only.
