Creating Presets

This section provides step-by-step instructions for creating presets.

There are three types of presets: Command, Toggle, and Selector. To determine which type you need, you must first decide how you plan to control the preset. You might start by asking yourself these questions:

• Do you want to work with presets that can be turned on and off or with presets that can only be turned on? Command presets can only be asserted (turned on), whereas Toggle and Selector presets can be activated and deactivated (turned on and off). There are many advantages to using presets that can be activated and deactivated. See About Presets for details on activation/deactivation vs. assertion of presets.
• How many presets are you controlling together? In other words, will the end user be controlling only one preset or choosing among multiple presets?
  • If there's only one preset, you'll need either a Toggle or a Command preset, depending on how you plan to work with presets (activate/deactivate versus assert).
  • If there are multiple presets, do they work independently of one another or can only one of them be active at any given time? If they work independently, you can use either Toggle or Command presets (although using Command presets may require more work). If only one choice can be active at a time, you should use a Selector preset.

  note: If needed, you can combine on one DR the display and control of different preset types. For example, you could control a list of toggle and command presets from one DR.
