Test Control Pages in Halogen

After your control pages are constructed it’s time to test them! Halogen makes it easy to test your control system both with HAL hardware and without.

To test web control pages without a HAL

Halogen includes a built-in web server that you can use to test control pages assigned to the Web if the HAL device isn’t available. Even though there is no audio when testing web-based control pages in this way, you can still test the operation of all controls and page navigation in Halogen and on the web controls page.

To test a Web control page when not connected to a HAL, simply click the Preview Page drop-down arrow in the Control Page Designer toolbar and select the Web: page viewer. This causes Halogen to open your default web browser and display the page that the built-in Halogen web server sends:

tip: If you've already selected the Web: page viewer, you can preview a page by simply clicking on the Preview Page button in the toolbar. Halogen remembers the most recent page viewer and uses it whenever you click on the button.

To test web control pages with a HAL

You can also use Halogen to test your web-based control pages on the HAL device. To do this first apply the current configuration to your HAL device (or connect to a HAL that already has your configuration loaded). Then, in the Control Page Designer dialog, test the currently selected page by clicking on the Preview Page drop-down arrow in the toolbar and selecting Web: as the page viewer. This causes Halogen to open your default web browser and display the page that the HAL server sends:

When testing Web control pages on HAL, the audio system is fully live and the controls on the web page affect the operation of the HAL according to the links you’ve made to controls in the configuration.

For more information about testing with other IP addresses, see the Preview Page description in Toolbar

tip: If you've already selected the Web: page viewer, you can preview a page by simply clicking on the Preview Page button in the toolbar. Halogen remembers the most recent page viewer and uses it whenever you click on the button.

To test DR6 control pages without a HAL

Halogen includes a built-in DR6 Viewer that emulates most functions of a DR6. You can use this to test control pages assigned to a DR6 if HAL and DR6 devices aren't available. Even though there is no audio when testing control pages in this way, you can still test the operation of all controls and page navigation.

To test a DR6 control page when not connected to a HAL, simply click the Preview Page drop-down arrow in the Control Page Designer toolbar and select the DR6 device that you wish to test. This causes Halogen to open a DR6 Viewer window and display the page:

For more information see DR6 Viewer Dialog Box

tip: If you've already selected a DR6 page viewer, you can preview a page by simply clicking on the Preview Page button in the toolbar. Halogen remembers the most recent page viewer and uses it whenever you click on the button.
